James Street is a senior from Fuquay-Varina, NC studying Public Policy and Critical Race Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences. At his community partner, Blackspace, James has created intentional curriculums and has organized and facilitated organizational processes for efficiency. Previously, James was partnered with Sacrificial Poets, where he organized and facilitated events and engaged in grant writing. James’ passions for social justice and equality shine through in his positions as the On-Campus Coordinator for the University Office for Diversity and Inclusion, a Co-Chair of Black Congress, Senior Advisor in Student Government, Board Position within the Carolina Union and as a Ronald E. McNair scholar. After UNC, James plans to enroll in a joint Ph.D. and J.D. program, wherein he plans to study the developmental and social psychology of multiracial individuals, sociological consequences of multiculturalism, how law is used to define race, and how to advocate on behalf of underrepresented individuals. These tools will enable James to provide critical insight into American racism, all while advocating for the least-of-us.
